The team had discussions with the Master, the kinesthesia, the administrative and not-teaching staff, the students, the parents and the alumni of the higher. Based on the above exercise and in the light of the NAAC criteria, the peer team assessed the institutional objectives and attainments and is pleased to give its objective assessment of the college in the following paragraphs.

Section - 2: CRITERION-WISE ANALYSIS:
Criterion - I: Curricular Aspects:
The college with a well defined mission and goal, aims at imparting holistic quality pedagogy to the economically and socially backward students of Udumalpet and villages around information technology.

The higher which was started with 3 courses of study with educatee strength of 345 has now grown into a multi-disciplinary one offering 11 programmes in UG and four programmes at PG level. The higher offers part-fourth dimension programmes in 1000.Phil. and Ph.D. in subjects viz., Tamil, Physics, English and Commerce. The college being situated in a rural area catering to the academic needs of the rural people has succeeded in accelerating the mobility of rural people and helping them to continue footstep with the challenges of globalization.

The curriculum offered in this higher provides for the promotion of integral growth of the students and provides opportunities to develop their overall personality. The institution offers UG programmes in 3 disciplines such as Scientific discipline, Arts and Commerce. In B.Sc., the major subjects are Physics, Mathematics, Chemical science, Informatics and Statistics. In Arts, the major subjects are Economic science, English and Tamil. The commerce section offers three dissimilar courses at UG level - B.Com. general, B.Com. with Computer Applications and B.Com with E-Commerce. Besides the conventional UG programmes, Post graduate courses are offered in Commerce, Physics, Reckoner Science and Tamil.

Criterion - II: Teaching, Learning and Evaluation:
Students are admitted to various programmes based on transparent access process. Academic functioning is the basic guideline for access. For the sake of social justice reservation policy is strictly implemented.

The departments prefer diverse methods to value the cess of the knowledge, skills and needs of the students. Remedial classes in English and mathematics are held for educationally disadvantaged students and are given special coaching, to assistance them to keep pace with other students.

This college has opted for semester system with internal assessment from the bookish year 2004-2005 onwards. The syllabus is unitized. Each unit of measurement is expected to be taught and learnt with in a particular fourth dimension frame. Equally per the guidelines of the Bharathiar Academy in that location should be continuous internal cess with a weightage of 25 marks. The components of internal assessment are assignments ( 5 marks), attendance ( 5 marks )and three written tests ( fifteen marks). Besides conducting Internal Cess tests every bit prescribed by the university, 1 model examination and frequent assignments are also given to the students. The college employs learner centered techniques like seminars (particularly for PG students) and assignments to supplement the lecture method of teaching.

The teacher pupil ratio is ane: 25 and that of educational activity to non teaching staff is v:ane. Most all the departments take sizable number of teaching faculty with Ph.D. ( 9 members ) and M.Phil. degrees ( 45 members). A few teachers are recognized research guides. Many of them accept participated in national and international seminars / conferences and presented papers. One faculty member of chemistry section had gone to South korea equally Post Doctoral Enquiry Fellow. Very few faculty members published books.

Teachers' performance is beingness assessed through feedback from the students and self appraisal by teachers themselves. The higher council also evaluates teachers' performance.

To overcome the shortage of regular kinesthesia the services of invitee faculty are utilized on temporary basis in all departments. All the instruction kinesthesia had undergone a week long training program to acquire fundamental knowledge of using computers. The department libraries are regularly used past faculty members and students in view of the closure of stack area in the cardinal library. Since more than l % of the sanctioned posts are vacant, to overcome the shortage of regular faculty the services of the guest faculty are utilized on temporary basis in all departments. All the educational activity kinesthesia had undergone a week long preparation programme to learn fundamental noesis of using computers.

Benchmark - III: Inquiry, Consultancy and Extension:
Research is a meaning action in the college. The departments of Tamil, Physics, English, and Commerce are recognized centres of research on part time basis by the Bharathiar University. Few kinesthesia members from the section of Tamil, Commerce , English and Physics take been the enquiry supervisors enabling significant research action in the institution. Incentives are provided to teachers to undertake inquiry activities by providing advance increase, grants and leave facility.

There are now 6 enquiry scholars working under research guides. There are two on going UGC funded projects - ane modest research project with an outlay of Rs.82,000/- in Computer science Department and another major research projection with an outlay of Rs.3,58,000/- in Tamil Section. Some of the faculty members have a skilful number of publications to their credit.

The college has undertaken many social extension activities. NCC and NSS units are making significant contribution to the extension activity. Camps are organized regularly. Every twelvemonth the volunteers are given sufficient service training which ultimately contribute to sustained customs evolution. No significant contribution towards consultancy services other than the students' projects.

Criterion -Four: Infrastructure and Learning Resources:
The college has own campus, spread over 42.v acres. Since the available 27 class rooms are not acceptable for handling all the classes, the college is run under two shifts: viii.thirty AM to 1.30 PM and from 1.45 PM to half dozen.30 PM.

In an educational establishment central library plays a crucial role in passing on knowledge to students. The built up surface area of the key library is 247.2 sq.meters. Every bit per the records information technology appears there are 26,393 books. The library is subscribing towards ten magazines and two journals only. This shows very poor subscription towards journals. Farther automation is not taken up and in that location is no book bank facility. Even in the department library the subscription towards journals is poor. Since the librarian mail is vacant the quality of library service to students and staff is very meager. The peer team would like to record its dissatisfaction regarding the services of the library and would like to see urgent measures for the redressal of present state of affairs.

The College has a play basis for students to play games like cricket, football, hockey and shuttle badminton. There is no full time Physical Director to promote students' participation in sports and games. In that location is one 'marker' who is on total time basis in this section. One faculty member is kept in-charge to await after this department. The peer team is non satisfied with the functioning and maintenance of the equipment in this department. The peer squad feels that students can not be motivated to participate actively in sports and games unless a Physical Manager is immediately appointed.

There are three calculator laboratories with 103 computers. In addition to computers the college has two Over Head Projectors (OHP), i multimedia projector, CD tutors and models. The computer science department has evolved a software package using Foxpro to handle all the processes of student admission, preparation of rank listing, bio-information of students etc.

For the convenience of the staff and student the college has provided a bottle run by cocky-help grouping of women. Its maintenance is satisfactory. In addition in that location is a co-operative store under the control of a faculty member and its operations are very much limited. Three vehicle parking sheds are also provided.

About 50 men students of this college are accommodated in social welfare hostel, situated nigh the higher. The establishment is not providing hostel accomodation to daughter students. The college has no hostel of its own. To take care of requirements of the girl students the college has ii residuum rooms with attached toilet and a sick room.

The physics and chemistry laboratories are not adequately equipped to suit the recent changes incorporated in the syllabi. The statistics section is yet to have a split up laboratory. The overall maintenance of the building is looked subsequently by the Public Works Department of Tamilnadu Regime. The upkeep of the premises is satisfactory.

In that location is a open well on the campus which is providing sufficient water to encounter the requirements of the higher. Since the water from the well is not fit for drinking purpose alternately they are getting water from municipal sources. The class rooms are adequately furnished with furniture.

Criterion - V: Student Back up and progression:
The percentage of students' progression to further studies varies from department to section. The institution publishes updated prospectus and handbooks wherein all details of the courses, rules and regulations are furnished. The laissez passer pct in the UG plan is 73.37 % and 71.30% respectively, while in PG plan it is 81.66 % and 90.32% respectively. The team feels that the pass percent is satisfactory. The dropout rates are 7.09 % in UG and 9.25 % in PG in the yr 2005-06 seems justifiable.

The teachers likewise teaching, are as well involved actively in bookish and personal counseling. The students are constantly encouraged by the staff to take part in extra curricular activities. The formal tutorial/ mentor system functioning in the college with 25 students assigned to i teacher to monitor the students' academic, social and personal requirements is a welcome initiative for quality enhancement. Activities of the various clubs and associations provide opportunities for the students for their participation and interest in cultural programmes, customs living and team spirit. Well-nigh all the students are getting 1 or the other scholarships in the form of merit cum ways scholarships for BC., MBC, SC/ST and Tamil medium stipend.

The alumni association of the higher motivates the students by giving cash awards to the students for their academic excellence and it too extends fiscal assistancee to expand the infrastructural facilities.

The calculator literacy program is launched for non-estimator course students to become estimator literates at a nominal fee of Rs.700/-. The certificate issued by the Government helps the students for securing jobs..

The NCC and NSS units of the higher are taking the responsibility of involving the students in extra curricular activities. On behalf of the NCC unit of this college Mr.T.Ramesh, Mr.T.Satish Prabhu and Mr.S.Muniasamy have participated in the republic mean solar day parade events at Delhi during 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07 respectively. In addition to the camps conducted by NCC, trekking activities and camps are conducted in near by tribal areas to educate the people well-nigh the danger of the deforestation.

The college has 4 NSS units ( 3 - Boys and 1- Girl) with 100 students in each unit. These units conducted Blood Donation Camps, Eye Testing Camps, Leadership Programme Camps to bring awareness among the students about their social responsibilities.

The Youth Red Cross Club participated in Blood Donation Camps, AIDS awareness and Health Awareness Programmes.

The Cultural Club is under the control of a |faculty member who is encouraging the innovative talents amidst students.

In that location is students redressal jail cell and placement cell in the institution nether the command of incharge faculty fellow member. Only the activities of the placement prison cell is not upwards to the expectation of the students.

Women's welfare Committee takes up the responsibleness of providing security to the girl students. 2% of seats is reserved for differently abled students. Students are encouraged to participate in sports by giving them special concessions such as attendance and admission.

Benchmark- Half-dozen: Arrangement and Management:
As the higher is a government owned establishment, it functions equally per government stipulations. The chief with the support of college council and various other committees runs the assistants. The students' union and field of study associations assistance the principal in improving the efficiency of the co-ordination mechanism. The appointment of guest faculty members is regulated by the state government norms. The faculty is actively involved in decision making process at all levels of bookish activity.

The day today fiscal matters in the higher are taken care of past the Bursar. The office superintendent and part staff assists the principal in the day today administration. The statutory inspect is systematically done to ensure the proper usage of funds. During document verification information technology is noted that AG audit is completed up to July 2006 and the section audit upto 2004-05. The higher has received UGC grants by style of program assistance, assistance for research projects and special grants for purchase of equipments.

Criterion - VII: Healthy Practices:

Section - three: Overall Assay:
The peer team after its two mean solar day visit and interaction sessions with the chief, students, parents, alumni, faculty and non-teaching staff feels that the institution is trying its best to go on right path merely for a few lapses. The team would like to record the following commendations and recommendations.

The Programme option is a harmonious combination of conventional courses with modern job oriented courses.

Considerable number of faculty members are having either Ph.D. or M.Phil. degrees.( 9 Ph.D. and 45 Grand.Phil.)

The campus has enough complimentary space for future developments.

The co-operative learning method adopted past the figurer science department is observable.

The reasonably practiced pass percentage produced against a partially illiterate groundwork is creditable.

Recommendations:

In social club to encourage games and sports activities a Concrete Director must be appointed immediately.
